We defend others rights? Can we defend our own rights? What are the rights we can defend? Our rights are explained to each country in different ways. Although, we may believe there are universal rights... Why do some countries ignore these? One of the reasons is that some think that what are their rights is what they deserve. Is this correct? Maybe, it all depends on what you think you deserve. This is tricky because some may think that they deserve what others say is best for all.
For example, television commercials are all the day telling us what is the best and what should we buy. Is this good or bad? None. Why? The people who put those commercials on want to sell more. The reasons: They want or need money for a believed "better life". Can the earth sustain trillons of persons who seek and have that believed "better life"? Can we all have a car, big home with air condition, buy things at the grocery store, and forget about how does that food reach your table? Perhaps, we depend on how techonlogy becomes more efficient and earth friendly. The fact is we don't have the completely friendly technology in our homes. However, what is enough? What is a "good home"? Where is the stop? Suppose technology becomes friendly to the earth, and so we can live that "regular better home"; what will happen then? Will the trillon persons seek a another "better home"? Probably the ones who sell will continue to tell you "more is better and more is always possible". Where will this kind of society lead us? There are several theories: 1. Society will be power game. It doesn't matter if it is communist or capitalist. People fighting and controling in the name of justice or equity, but really doing it for the power, commodity, and money. Those "who have a lot" will want others 'who don't have a lot", to have less, so those "who have a lot" may have even more and more. We will live wars, and a lot of suffering. I don't want to think this will be the way we will end up to realize that we cannot continue on this self-destructive path to gain security through egoism.
2. Society will see how an egoist life will destroy the earth.
As a consequence, people will understand There is one possible way out, they may be others I don't know yet, but one of those is to understand our innerself, and discover who are we? Why do we do what we do? Always remembering, we will someday die, and leave a world for those who don't know why we left it that way. Always remembering, security does not come into being with a "better life", but with an understading of who are you, why are you doing what you do, why are you here, and where are you doing? Security comes into being when peace is in your heart, and how does peace come into heart? Where does love lie in your heart?
